We’ll help you make informed choices to align your workplace benefits with your long-term retirement plan.
  • Cash flow and budget planning
    • A sustainable retirement starts with understanding your income needs and spending habits. We’ll build a personalized budget to ensure your lifestyle is supported year after year, accounting for inflation, healthcare, travel, and other priorities, with flexibility built in for life’s surprises.

Retirement planning questions we hear often

When should I start collecting Social Security?

There is no single right age. You can generally claim as early as 62, but your monthly benefit is permanently reduced if you claim before your full retirement age, which is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later. Waiting past full retirement age can increase your benefit until age 70. The better choice depends on your health, other income, your spouse’s benefits and how long your savings need to last, so we look at it as part of your full income plan.

How much can I withdraw from my retirement savings each year?

It depends on your spending needs, other income, investment mix, taxes and how long retirement may last. Rules of thumb can be a starting point, but they do not reflect your situation or the market conditions in the years you are withdrawing. We can build a withdrawal plan around your actual numbers and review it as markets and your needs change. No withdrawal rate can guarantee that savings will last.

What are required minimum distributions (RMDs)?

RMDs are amounts the IRS generally requires you to withdraw each year from traditional IRAs and most employer retirement plans once you reach a set age, currently 73 for most of today’s retirees, rising to 75 for people born in 1960 or later. These withdrawals are usually taxed as ordinary income, and missing one can lead to a penalty. Planning ahead, sometimes years before RMDs begin, may give you more control over when that income is taxed.

Do you work with people who are already retired?

Yes. We work with people who are already retired as well as those still planning ahead. We review where your income comes from, how your investments are positioned and how taxes affect your withdrawals, then adjust the plan as life changes. If you have recently moved to the Myrtle Beach area, we can also look at how South Carolina taxes affect your retirement income.
